THE
AWARD:
The Outstanding Achievement Award is the highest individual award granted by
the Cancer Survivors’ Fund, and represents the greatest personal
achievement by a CSF student.
While all the students selected by CSF are heroes for their
winning fight against cancer, and for their continuing to achieve
despite the obstacles imposed upon them by that fight, this award is
not only centered on academic performance but also on having a
well-developed team spirit, strong people skills, emotional and
spiritual intelligence, and a dedication to volunteerism.
The
award entitles the winner to receive a $10,000
scholarship.
QUALIFICATIONS:
 |
All undergraduate students are eligible for this award.
|
 |
Serving above self is a prerequisite for this award. Students
of the Cancer Survivors' Fund learn to give back at an
early age. Volunteer work is a requirement, and may be of
any kind that benefits others in the community.
|
 |
Getting involved in extra-curricular activities is a second
requirement. To qualify, students must participate in such
activities as athletics, student government, clubs or
service groups that require teamwork. The Cancer Survivors'
Fund is successful because of the teamwork of its volunteers,
supporters and our students and their families. Team players are
always the most successful people in life, and we expect that of
each candidate for this award.
|
 |
The final requirement is academic performance. Cancer
Survivors' Fund students have already faced and overcome serious
obstacles in life, and academic performance may often take a
back seat to survival. We encourage our students not to
let other issues interfere with their efforts at academic
excellence. Doing one’s best consistently is the key for
future success. Therefore, maintaining a minimum of 3.5 GPA for
at least two consecutive semesters is a requirement for our
award candidates.
