Devon Dinkens Sharing Her Success Story at the CSF Gala - April 2007 Devon survived osteosarcoma. She is attending Texas A&M University, majoring in Child and Family Studies. She has the grace of a ballet dancer—because she has been a dancer with Corpus Christi Ballet Company. In her own words:
“I started dancing at the age of four and have been dancing ballet ever since. I thought being a ballerina was what I would be forever. One week before my 16th birthday I was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma was told that here was a good chance that I will never dance again.
Cancer is no easy thing to beat and impossible to overcome without the help of others. I hope to be one of the ‘others’ as a child life specialist using my experience and help other kids going through long-term hospitalization. I can help children and teens face their fears, give them courage and help them ‘live strong’ through a horrible and difficult time in their lives.”
