Umut "Matt" Unver is the first recipient of our scholarships. He graduated with honors in 2005 from the University of Texas in Austin with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He already received and accepted an excellent position at INTEL. He was diagnosed with the cancer of the fibula at the age of sixteen. Following years of treatment and numerous operations his leg could not be saved, but he is now totally cancer free; walking, running, bicycling, driving to school, having the benefits of his brand new prosthesis furnished by our organization. Umut is also acting as a community leader, passing on his own experiences through mentoring young men and women, who will have to go through amputation of a limb. In his own words: 

"When I was sixteen, I was diagnosed with cancer of the fibula. After years of chemotherapy and countless operations my doctors could not save my leg. I felt then that my life was over and did not really care if I lived or died. Volunteers of Cancer Survivors' Fund held my hand and made me believe that I was not a victim but a very brave young man to survive cancer with a bright and happy future. I am very fortunate to have them on my side."
